Taken from the website, "The church, built in 1889 through 1896, held worship services for Storer College students and its own congregation of mostly African-American residents from Harpers Ferry and Bolivar. It was named for New England minister and abolitionist, Reverend Silas Curtis, who was one of the moving forces in establishing Storer College. He served as a Trustee in the early years of the school."
