"The Baba Shrine is a building in Haifa, Israel, where the remains of Baba, the founder of Babism and the ancestor of Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i faith, are buried. The shrine is considered the second holiest place of the Bahá'í faith, after the Bahá'u'lláh shrine in Akkon. The exact location of the shrine on Mount Carmel was communicated by Bahá'u'lláh himself to his eldest son ('Abdu'l-Bahá) in 1891.' Abdu'l-Bahá planned the structure, which was later designed and completed by his grandson Shoghi Effendim.
At the top of the building is a dome with 18 windows perched on an octagonal base.
On July 8, 2008, the Baba Shrine was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List." Source: (
