The town of Dover was established in the late 1800's. Originally the area was cattle country, with the Red Fork Ranch its central point. Located along the old Chisholm Trail, many a wagon traveled this route.

Today, the town of Dover has about 365 residents, half of whom commute to Hennessey or Kingfisher to work. The few 1930's commercial buildings in what was once "downtown" are now vacant and some in a state of disrepair. This building with its canted corner entrance probably was once the bank. Along the south side of the building is a sidewalk with a metal pole railing. The railing has three metal wagon wheels welded into it. At the corner of the building, the handicap ramp from the street has two wagon wheels on each side railing.
