Edna McPhail was a well-known artist and was a driving force behind many of Dawson Creek's major projects such as the moving of the grain elevator that became

the Dawson Creek Art Gallery where she taught a Senior's Art Program for 20 years; and was involved in getting the Dawson Creek Public Library established. Edna was a teacher and instrumental in starting the very first Kindergarten in Dawson Creek. Her 1970 honor as Dawson Creek's Citizen of the Year was very well deserved.

The Peace Park is one of Edna and her Committee's main accomplishments. That is why the committee chose to install a unique Human Sundial and dedicate it to the committee's founder Edna McPhail, who decided to take gardening to a whole new level 22 years ago. In the words of Edna: "If you want a place to live and thrive, it starts with the people living there. Every person who lives there needs to contribute and try to add to their community."

Edna McPhail was very much involved in her community.

Description:
An analemmatic dial 23 feet 7 inches wide consisting of a simple concrete slab with black painted marking. Shows solar time plus one hour (akin to Daylight Saving Time). Dial is in memory of a local artist and community activist Edna McPhail (1923 - 2008) who championed the development of the Peace Park in which the dial is located.

Incidentally, the time stamp on the photo below was 15:34:45, telling us that the sundial is pretty accurate.
