The large head of the painter Jiri Kars is placed on a stone cylindrical base. On her head was a winged, headless, female body, apparently representing a muse. At the bottom of the plinth of the statue is the inscription: 1880 JIRÍ GEORGES KARS 1945.
"Georges Kars was an important Czech - French painter of Jewish origin. He was born in 1880 in Kralupy nad Vltavou. He completed his art studies from 1899 to 1905 at the Academy in Munich, where he studied art history and later painting. From 1907 he worked mainly in Paris. During this time he joined the international group of artists creating under the name École de Paris, which was formed around Pablo Picasso. Kars' close friends included Paul Klee, Jules Pascin, Marie Laurencin, Suzanne Valadon, Marc Chagall, Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Maurice Utrillo, Juan Gris and others. In 1909 he became a member of the Salon d’Automne and in 1913 a member of the Salon des Indépendants. In the 1920s and 1930s, he exhibited in a number of European countries, such as Geneva, Vienna, Amsterdam, London, Barcelona and even Chicago, as well as in the then very exotic Japan. During World War II, Kars lived in France, later escaped to Switzerland before the Nazis. Depressed by the impact of the Holocaust on his family, Georges Kars committed suicide on February 5, 1945 in Geneva." Source: (
