In August 2010, the chestnut tree that Anne Frank writes about in her world-famous diary collapsed in the garden of the Secret Annex on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. Volunteers from the Elementree and Wereldboom foundations collected the chestnuts that have now grown into large trees.
Theo van Bracht of Wandelpark Waalwijk: 'When organizing the first Park Festival in 2015, I met Ton Stokwielder of Wereldboom. Ton wanted an Anne Frank tree in a special place in the park. The tree was planted behind the war memorial in April as a lasting memory of Anne Frank, her diary and the victims of the Second World War. The tree makes us reflect on the past and gives a message for the future.'

Unfortuntately, vandalize have damaged the tree on several occasions. Find below a text from the local paper
The Anne Frank tree in the Wandelpark in Waalwijk did not survive the continuous destruction. The municipality will let you know. "If the tree still bears leaves this year, this will be the last year." At the beginning of March, the so-called Anne Frank tree was destroyed for the seventh time in a year. Until now, the tree has continued to recover after the destruction, but after the last 'attack' the tree has only a two percent chance of survival.
