This half scale replica of the original Vietnam Wall in our nation’s capitol honors the more than 58,000 American service men and women who gave their all during the Vietnam War from November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975. The memorial features engraved granite slabs, sourced from the same granite used in the original wall, attached to a thick concrete retaining wall in the “V” configuration of the original wall in Washington, DC.

Ground was broken for the Vietnam Wall of Southwest Florida on January 4, 2016 and was dedicated 10 months later on Saturday November 5, 2016 at the Veterans Park located in Punta Gorda’s Laishley Park. The half scale replica is the seventh replica to be created and dedicated in the United States.

The memorial was funded by $650,000 in private donations along with $50,000 from Charlotte County and $150,000 from the State of Florida. The City of Punta Gorda donated the land as well as engineering and site preparation services.

The memorial wall is 273 feet long, nearly 7 feet high at its tallest point and 2 inches thick.

A detailed article written in American Cemetery and Cremation titled ‘Hallowed Ground’ dated May 17, 2018 tells the story of the memorial wall. (visit link)
