The designation 5K3 is a combination of the sector in which the tower is located (in this case sector 5, Rotterdam), the air watch circle within that sector to which the tower belongs (air watch circle K) and the sequence number within this circle (in this case number 3).
In the Netherlands, a total of 138 of these watchtowers have been built since 1951. Now 17 are still standing, many in poor condition. This is the last surviving tower in South Holland.
The tower is built around 1953 of prefab concrete honeycomb elements. On top is the viewing platform, which consists of an open space measuring 3 by 3 meters. On the southwest side of the viewing platform is a covered shelter with wooden benches.
At 6.5 meters, it is the lowest surviving air watch tower in the Netherlands and also the only one built on a total concrete casemate from the early Second World War. The tower was used until 1964, the year in which the Air Force Corps in the South and Central Netherlands was disbanded.
Era: Post WW II

General Comments:
The tower and kazemat are restored in 2012. The tower is only open for the public at special events. A information panel is at the site. There is a geocache nearby with lots of information.
