The EATM (Exotic Animal Training and Management) Program at Moorpark College trains students to handle and care for wild and domestic animals at AMERICA'S TEACHING ZOO and prepares them for careers in animal parks, zoos and oceanariums. The goal of the program is to continually achieve excellence in the education of leaders to meet the future challenges of working safely, humanely, and intelligently with animals.
Students receive education through a combination of classroom instruction and actual experience in the care, handling, and training of a wide variety of domestic and non-domestic animals. Moorpark College maintains, on campus, a collection of animals at America’s Teaching Zoo, which serves as a “living laboratory” for the students. The students in the program care for and work with these animals. Thus, this collection provides the student with a unique opportunity to learn about domestic and non-domestic animals and to develop the skills necessary to work in facilities utilizing animals.
