The William Paca House was the home of the one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence. He was also the last signer to die. This tree was planted shortly before his death.
The plaque says, "This is the largest white mulberry in Anne Arundel County. Many mulberries were planted in the 1820s and 30's in a national effort to feed silkworms to support a silk industry. The industry never succeeded, but historic cities like Annapolis still contain many mulberry trees."
