The windmill De Kersenboom is located on the Waal in Rijsoord (municipality of Ridderkerk).

This mill was inaugurated on 23 July 1822 and originally stood on the Oude Dijk, later also called the Waaldijk. In the nineties it was moved to the other side of the Waal on the Waalweg and restored.

The mill is a so-called ground sailer and has iron rods with a flight of 20.30 meters. The first stone was laid by Arie Karsseboom, a 3-year-old boy. The client for the construction was Jan van der Ven and the bricklayer was B. Otterspoor.

In the literature the mill is said to be called "The Cherry Tree", but this is questionable and may be confused with the name of the first stone-layer. The first miller and foreman of Van der Ven was called Gerrit Dijkman de Kool (fatally killed in 1847), so one would be inclined to speak of "De Kolenaar". This may have caused the name confusion.

In the 1950s, grains were sold for chicken feed, for example. The Kersenboom was in operation from 1822 to 1961 by the miller family De Kool. There were plans for demolition at the time, but this ultimately fell through when the mill changed hands. The mill was then converted into a weekend residence. In 1988 the foundation "De Rijsoordse molen" was established, which successfully campaigned for the preservation and restoration of the mill in its original state. The foundation has owned the mill since 1990. After the relocation of the built-in and grown-in mill in 1991, after a major restoration in October 1993, the mill was voluntarily put into use again.

The mill runs regularly and wheat is regularly ground for private individuals and a bakery. The mill is always open on Saturdays between 10:00 and 12:00. Source - Wikipedia
