The 1.5 meter high bronze figure of Winged Victory is standing on an orb with both hands outstretched holding a trumpet and a laurel wreath. It stands on a 4.5 meter high shaft which in turn is on top of a 1.5 meter base.
The memorial was sculpted by G H Fairburn and unveiled in 1921.
The inscription on the memorial was later amended after the Second World War, and in 2018 the whole memorial was cleaned and restored in preparation of a ceremony to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
