Ishbel Marie Marjoribanks Hamilton-Gordon, marquise d’Aberdeen et Temair, consort vice-royale, auteure, philanthrope et défenseure des droits des femmes (née le 14 mars 1857 à Londres, au Royaume-Uni; décédée le 18 avril 1939 à Aberdeen, au Royaume-Uni). En tant qu’épouse du gouverneur généralJohn Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, comte d’Aberdeen, avec titre de consort vice-royale, de 1893 à 1898, lady Aberdeen a organisé le Conseil national des femmes au Canada, est devenue la première commanditaire de la Women’s Art Association of Canada et a contribué à la création des Infirmières de l’Ordre de Victoria du Canada. Elle a également été la première femme à s’adresser à la Chambre des communes et à recevoir un diplôme honorifique au Canada.

Ishbel Marie Marjoribanks Hamilton-Gordon, Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair, vice-regal consort, author, philanthropist and women’s rights advocate (born 14 March 1857 in London, United Kingdom; died 18 April 1939 in Aberdeen, United Kingdom). As Vice-Regal Consort to Governor General John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, Earl of Aberdeen, from 1893 until 1898, Lady Aberdeen organized the National Council of Women in Canada, became first sponsor of the Women’s Art Association of Canada and helped found the Victorian Order of Nurses. Lady Aberdeen was the first woman to address the House of Commons and the first woman to receive an honorary degree in Canada.
In 1898, Lady Aberdeen became the first woman to make a speech in the House of Commons, when she thanked the Members of Parliament for a gift of Royal Doulton china painted by 16 artists from the Women’s Art Association. The Globenewspaper reported that the speech “was grand as a piece of oratory, and her voice was simply thrilling. She brought tears to the eyes of all who were around her. I never saw an audience so captivated by a woman.”
