The family name, "Person", is on the plinth, and this is one of those uncommon variants where the Woodmen of the World emblem is on a bronze plaque at the top of the trunk. Unfortunately, its green patina has run and stained the white marble. The inscription reads:

D.E. Person

Born
Sept. 13, 1870

Died
May 13, 1905

---

A piece of bark peels back to reveal an epitaph:

'Tis hard to
break the
tender cord
When love
has bound
the heart.

'Tis hard
so hard to
speak the
words
must we
forever part?
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
