Church Website"St. Mary’s is located near the geographical center of Texas in San Saba County and serves all of San Saba County. The Catholic Church in San Saba was first organized in the home of Mr. Ed Campbell in early 1860. A priest would come once a year on horseback to celebrate Mass. The first church was built in 1891 and was later used as the parish hall when the existing church was built in 1967.
In 2019, after a Capital Campaign fundraiser and the generosity of the Bishop of the Austin Diocese, St. Mary’s completed our Parish Life Center. It is a religious education center with classrooms, offices, and a fellowship hall. The old hall, offices, and rectory has been removed and this area is being utilized as parking and green space. The existing Hedberg CCD Center now provides a home for our Pastor.
From 1860 until 1946, St. Mary’s was a parish of the diocese of San Antonio. In 1946, St. Mary’s became a part of the diocese of Austin until the present day."
