In the Czech Republic, only one “General Warning” warning signal is used to warn the population in the event of an impending or emerging emergency. This signal is emitted by a wobble tone of the siren for 140 seconds (2 minutes 20 seconds) and can sound up to 3 times in succession at approximately three-minute intervals. In the case of electronic (so-called "speaking") sirens, the warning tone is supplemented with voice information, which specifies the nature of the threat (flood risk, chemical accident, radiation accident) and is accompanied by a call to watch Czech Radio and Czech Television broadcasts.
Usually every first Wednesday of the month, at 12:00, we hear the so-called "Test tone". This signal accompanies the regular acoustic test of the sirens. This is an uninterrupted siren tone lasting 140 seconds. In the case of electronic sirens, the verbal information "siren test, siren test, siren test, siren test, siren test has been passed."
