The South Congregational Church was organized in 1872 as the Congregational Society of Salmon Brook. The congregational originally worshipped in the town library building which burned in 1917. The present Colonial Revival style church was then designed by H. Wales Lines Co. of Meriden, CT and constructed in 1918. Today they have a partnership with the older First Congregational Church in Granby.

The one story high church is built on a brownstone foundation and features a slate covered gable roof and white aluminum siding.
Revival, gable-roofed structure covered with aluminum siding. Six Doric style columns support a pediment with an oval window over a portico entrance. The central door with a fanlight transom is flanked by a pair of rectangular windows, each with 12 panes.

At the apex of the gable roof is a short square tower which supports a tall belfry with louvered windows surrounded by a balustrade fence. At the peak is a copper dome. The sides of the church are seven bays deep with a rectangular window at the first bay and larger windows with rounded tops at the other six bays. There is a two bay deep extension at the back of the church.
