Marker Name: Craigie Point
Marker Text: James Craigie (1813-1895) came to America in 1834 from Scotland to work for the Hudson’s Bay Co. In 1845 he married Mary Ann, the daughter of a Bannock Indian chief. In 1866 he moved his family here and established a 42-acre land claim. Mary Ann died shortly after the move. Their home site was across the bay on land now called Craigie Point. The couple’s daughters, Mary, Jane, and Rachel, are well known in this area’s history.
