"Langedijke is an old regional village that stretches along the road from Makkinga to Groot Wateren in Drenthe. It is by far the smallest village in Ooststellingwerf.
Around the year 1500 the village is mentioned as a parish that belonged to the deanery of Drenthe. The present State of Friesland called it in 1788: 'a small village on the road from Makkinga to Appelsche, among which only 12 voices belong; the church without tower stands west of that road, and further south one finds a few farmers' houses, in the trees on the farmlands, running close to Appelsche."
