The 60 year old brick church that stood on this site was razed starting April 21, 1941. Many of the bricks were cleaned and reused in the construction of this current church.
"Bishop John Mark Gannon along with dozens of priests and hundreds of laity gathered for the laying of the cornerstone of the new SS. Cosmas & Damian
Church on Sunday, August 31 1941."
