"Gamallo Dionisio Fierros , born in Ribadeo on August 25 of 1914 and passed away in Madrid on January 16 of 2000 , was a writer polygraph galician in Spanish, grandson of the painter Dionisio Fierros.
Training and first publications
He studied first in Ribadeo and then in Lugo , to later study law at the University of Santiago de Compostela , graduating in 1936 . In 1938 he was the local Delegate for Propaganda of FET and the JONS in Ribadeo. He later completed Philosophy and Letters in 1941 at the University of Valladolid . In the middle, already in 1939 , he was assistant professor of literature at the Instituto de Lugo.

He later collaborated in Ya , Arriba , Informaciones , El Español and La Estafeta Literaria , among other publications.

From 1945 he was assistant professor of Geography and History at the University of Santiago de Compostela, professor of Spanish Literature at the Ramiro de Maeztu and Lope de Vega Institutes in Madrid, promoter, professor and first director of the Labor Institute in Ribadeo and professor at the Official School. of Journalism of Madrid .

Academic world
Between 1953 and 1955 he worked as an advisor to the Bibliographic Information Service of the National Library . He was appointed a corresponding member of the Real Academia Galega . He was also a member of the board of the Centro Galego in Madrid and secretary of the Culture Commission. He was a member of the Institute of Asturian Studies and a corresponding member of the Royal Spanish Academy .

Between 1955 and 1960 he worked as director of the new Instituto de Ribadeo.

He maintained a direct relationship or correspondence with various personalities from the cultural world in Spain and Galicia, such as Ramón Otero Pedrayo , with whom he maintained a relationship from the 1930s until his death.

The bibliography of Dionisio Gamallo is very varied, counting several books and more than 2,500 articles. emphasizes Dawn ( 1942 ), poetry book with 14 poems (unpublished book of his voice defeated ). Dionisio Gamallo has been recognized with several awards . Among them:

Pérez Lugín Annual Literature Prize of the A Coruña Press Association ( 1943 ) for Galicia through its poets .
First prize for Castilian poetry at the Floral Games of Santiago de Compostela ( 1945 ) for the poem "Piedra viva".
Prize of the Contest of the Galician Center of Havana ( 1951 ) by Silk in the thistle (life and works of Curros Enríquez) .
First prize in the José Martí Contest sponsored by the Cuban Embassy and the Institute of Hispanic Culture in Madrid ( 1953 ).
Prize to the Journalism ( 1971 ) of the Deputation of A Coruña .
In addition, it was distinguished with the decoration of the Order of Rubén Darío in Nicaragua ( 1967 ), named "Lucense of ano" in 1987 and Castelao medal in 1998 .

From shortly after his death until his merger with the other IES of Ribadeo, the Institute he directed bore his name. After the merger, the new center was renamed IES de Ribadeo Dionisio Gamallo"
