These two silhouette sculptures which show 5 children are a memorial to the children who lost their lives in the March 2020 tornado that hit Cookeville, TN. One sculpture shows two children trying to catch some butterflies with a net. The second sculpture shows 3 kids walking and holding hands. Each sculpture is placed in the middle of the pebble filled park on a concrete platform.
"A park dedicated to the five children who lost their lives in the March 3 tornado is being built at Baxter City Park.
Those children are Bridgett McCormick, 13; Dawson Curtis, 6; Harlan Marsh, 5; Hattie Collins, 4; and Sawyer Kimberlin, 2.
"Reflection Park will celebrate the lives of the children who died in the tornado," said Baxter Beautification chairperson Jeanie Lee. "We have been working on this since May. An anonymous person contributed quite a lot toward this.
"They (the anonymous donor) called me a few days after the tornado, and wanted to know what I thought about doing this. Of course, I cried and loved it."
It will have a brick archway that reads "Reflection Park," five children statues, and five stone benches.
"I have pulled in David Prowse with Bennett Industries to make the statues and the archway," Lee said. "This was a major team effort."
The opening ceremony for Reflection Park, which is just off Cow Palace Drive, is scheduled 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3."
