Boxcar Brewery was established in 2017, initially brewing on a small set-up in Ponsford Street, Hackney. In August 2019 the brewery was re-established at its present, larger location. Two railway arches are occupied, one containing the 10bbl capacity brewing equipment, the other a small taproom. The taproom contains a mix of comfy chairs, small tables and one larger table and features some of the artwork used in designs for the brewery’s cans. There is also an area of outside seating.
Beer is primarily sold from keg or cans and cans are available to take away. There is a small bar counter with eight taps. The brewery likes to experiment with beer styles and hop varieties, but also brews in traditional styles such as Dark Milds and Bitters. Most beers are available in small batches only.
At the time of writing, the taproom opens daily except Monday and Tuesday. Opening hours are evenings only on weekdays and all day at the weekend, but you should always check for current opening hours before visiting.
