"The Mondoñedo Seminary was the third that was created in Spain, when the diocese of Mondoñedo-Ferrol applied very early the proposal of the Council of Trent to establish a seminary in each diocese; in fact, as early as 1565 authorization is requested for its creation, which will be complete in 1583.
The successive improvements carried out over the years, as well as the construction of a new apartment in 1888, the expansion for the installation of the new pavilions in 1947, the remodeling of the rooms for the seminarians in 1992 or the most recent improvement of the cloisters in 2006, have always kept a harmony with the primitive works, so that the whole can be seen as a whole.
The Seminary is also an educational community whose purpose is to cultivate the seeds of the priestly vocation. A place and a space to mature as a person. Due to its origin, it ranks third among all the Seminars in Spain.
As a specific training center for the priesthood, it is free to select its students. Therefore, it requires a series of indispensable conditions to be part of this community: openness to human, Christian and vocational formation; capacities and aptitudes for the study; an adequate personal trajectory and maturity according to the age of the candidate. The seminary seeks to carry out a process where young people can mature as persons, Christians and vocation. Have a clear orientation and integral formation of the person. The development of basic human qualities is sought, oriented towards a Christian life and a vocational option."
