"The Grand Hôtel Bellevue, colloquially called the “Rotonde”, is a building built in Westende in Belgium from 1909 to 1911 by the architect Octave van Rysselberghe, elder brother of the neo-impressionist painter Théo van Rysselberghe.

The Grand Hôtel Bellevue is located at number 300 of the “Sea Digue” at the north-eastern end of Westende-Plage.

It is the first building that walkers see when they come from Middelkerke by the beach: it is in a way the figurehead of Westende-Plage.

The hotel suffered extensive damage during the two world wars. After the Second World War, only the ground floor was still used as a hotel (under the name of Hôtel Rotonde), the rest of the building being transformed into apartments.

The Grand Hôtel Bellevue is made up of three parts: a semi-circular part of four floors (the “rotunda” proper) and two linear wings. The wing located along the sea wall has four floors like the “rotunda” while the rear wing, located to the south-east along the Zonnelaan (avenue du soleil), has only one floor.

The floors feature balconies with stone parapets. The balconies on the first floor are topped with lowered arches, those on the second floor are topped with semicircular arches while those on the third floor are topped with a flat lintel at the level of the semi-circular part of the building (the " rotunda ”) and a lowered arch at the level of the facade facing the sea.

"Le Grand Hôtel Bellevue, appelé familièrement la « Rotonde », est un édifice construit à Westende en Belgique de 1909 à 1911 par l'architecte Octave van Rysselberghe, frère aîné du peintre néo-impressionniste Théo van Rysselberghe.

Le Grand Hôtel Bellevue est situé au numéro 300 de la « Digue de mer » à l'extrémité nord-est de Westende-Plage.

Il est le premier bâtiment que les promeneurs aperçoivent lorsqu'ils viennent de Middelkerke par la plage : il constitue en quelque sorte la figure de proue de Westende-Plage.

Le Grand Hôtel Bellevue était un hôtel de luxe où séjournèrent des membres de la famille royale belge.

L'hôtel subit de nombreux dommages durant les deux guerres mondiales. Après la deuxième guerre mondiale, seul le rez-de-chaussée servit encore d'hôtel (sous le nom d'Hôtel Rotonde), le reste de l'immeuble étant transformé en appartements.

Le Grand Hôtel Bellevue est constituée de trois parties : une partie hémi-circulaire de quatre étages (la « rotonde » proprement dite) et deux ailes linéaires. L'aile située le long de la Digue de mer possède quatre étages comme la « rotonde » alors que l'aile arrière, située au sud-est le long de la Zonnelaan (avenue du soleil), ne comporte qu'un seul étage.

Les étages présentent des balcons à parapet de pierre. Les balcons du premier étage sont surmontés d'arcs surbaissés, ceux du deuxième étage sont surmontés d'arcs en plein cintre tandis que ceux du troisième étage sont surmontés d'un linteau plat au niveau de la partie hémi-circulaire du bâtiment (la « rotonde ») et d'un arc surbaissé au niveau de la façade située face à la mer.

Het Grand Hôtel Bellevue bevindt zich op nummer 300 van de "Sea Digue" aan het noordoostelijke uiteinde van Westende-Plage.

Het is het eerste gebouw dat wandelaars zien als ze vanuit Middelkerke aan het strand komen: het is in zekere zin het boegbeeld van Westende-Plage.

Het hotel heeft tijdens de twee wereldoorlogen grote schade opgelopen. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog was alleen de begane grond nog in gebruik als hotel (onder de naam Hôtel Rotonde), de rest van het gebouw werd omgevormd tot appartementen.

Het Grand Hôtel Bellevue bestaat uit drie delen: een halfrond deel van vier verdiepingen (de "eigenlijke rotonde") en twee lineaire vleugels. De vleugel gelegen langs de Zeedijk heeft vier verdiepingen zoals de “rotonde” terwijl de achtervleugel, gelegen op het zuidoosten langs de Zonnelaan, slechts één verdieping heeft.

De vloeren zijn voorzien van balkons met stenen borstweringen. De balkons op de eerste verdieping zijn bedekt met verlaagde bogen, die op de tweede verdieping zijn bedekt met halfronde bogen, terwijl die op de derde verdieping zijn bedekt met een platte bovendorpel ter hoogte van het halfronde deel van het gebouw (de 'rotonde ”) En een verlaagde boog ter hoogte van de gevel met uitzicht op zee.
