Drifting sand in the Brabant Sahara
The drifting sand in the area is alive and therefore rare in the Netherlands. Natuurmonumenten is working with a restoration project to maintain the drifting sand areas. The sand makes the soil nutrient-poor and dry and there is a large temperature difference between day and night (up to fifty degrees difference). This gives the area a special flora and fauna, because the plants and animals have adapted to these conditions. For example, you will find lizards, sand bees and different types of lichen.
