This cross is situated on the hill just outside The Church of the Good Shepherd in the North East village of Burradon.

The cross is constructed from Australian hardwood timber taken from the shaft from the nearby coal mine, Burradon Colliery upon it's closure in 1975.

It holds local significance as Burradon was a coal mine village. The cross serves as an unofficial memorial to miners who worked in the colliery. There was once a massive explosion at the colliery 1860 causing the death of 76 workers including boys as young as 10. It is said every family in the village lost a loved one in the accident.

This cross was rededicated in 2017 after a random act of vandalism damaged it and caused it to snap days before Christmas in 2016.
