A 1968 Texas Historical Marker at the final resting place of William Rufus Boyd, Jr., in Teague's Greenwood Cemetery indicates that he was the first mayor of Teague when it incorporated in 1906.

Mr. Boyd is buried next to his wife in the Boyd family plot at the west side of the cemetery, his grave marked by a marble headstone that reads:

The historical marker serves as a footstone of sorts, and it reads:
(January 7, 1885 - November 6, 1959)
Licensed to practice law at age 19; became Teague's first mayor at 21. Regional manager of U.S. Chamber of Commerce during World War I. Joined the American Petroleum Institute in 1920, rising to positions of Executive Vice President, 1928-1941, and President, 1941-1949.
In World War II, as chairman of War Council of Petroleum Industry, he aided Allied victory.
Married Gertrude Watson and had one son, William Rufus, III.

The Handbook of Texas Online (see below) does provide some good reading about Mr. Boyd, who was quite the go-getter at a young age, but there may be a mistake: The article mentions that he is buried in Arlington National Cemetery; his son, Colonel William Rufus Boyd III, is buried with his wife at Arlington, but it's telling that there is no Findagrave headstone photo for Mr. Boyd, Jr. in his listing at Arlington. Arlington's own directory lists only Colonel Boyd, not his father.
