This sculpture of spawning salmon is next to the site of a former water mill next to a weir on the River Wharfe.

The weir built to provide water to drive the mill also had a salmon trap built into it as a method of fishing for salmon. The weir and trap also prevented the salmon reaching their spawning grounds.
These days the salmon trap has been converted to a fish ladder and salmon can now once again get past the barrier of the weir.
To celebrate this and the millennium this sculpture of two spawning salmon was erected next to a public footpath on the River Wharfe. There is a plaque in front of the sculpture.
