Location Information

Loker (formerly Locre) Churchyard is located 11.5 Kms south-west of Ieper town centre on the Dikkebusseweg (N375). From Ieper town centre the Dikkebusseweg is reached via Elverdingsestraat, straight over a roundabout onto J.Capronstraat (for 30 metres), then left along M.Fochlaan. Immediately after the train station, the first right hand turning is the Dikkebusseweg. On passing through the village of Dikkebus the road continues for 6 kilometres to the village of Loker. The church and churchyard are located at the side of the road in the village of Loker itself.

History Information

Locre (now Loker) was in Allied hands during the greater part of the war, and field ambulances were stationed in the Convent of St. Antoine. The village changed hands several times between 25 and 30 April 1918, when it was recaptured by the French. The hospice, or convent, was the scene of severe fighting on 20 May, but was not retaken until first week in July. Loker Churchyard was used by field ambulances and fighting units from December 1914 to June 1917, and it contains two Commonwealth plots. One grave was brought in after the Armistice from LOCRE FRENCH CEMETERY No.4. The churchyard contains 215 Commonwealth burials of the First World War.

Le cimetière de Loker (anciennement Locre) est situé à 11,5 km au sud-ouest du centre-ville d'Ypres sur la Dikkebusseweg (N375). Depuis le centre-ville d'Ypres, la Dikkebusseweg est accessible via Elverdingsestraat, tout droit au rond-point sur J.Capronstraat (pendant 30 mètres), puis à gauche le long de M.Fochlaan. Immédiatement après la gare, le premier virage à droite est le Dikkebusseweg. En passant par le village de Dikkebus, la route continue sur 6 kilomètres jusqu'au village de Loker. L'église et le cimetière sont situés sur le bord de la route dans le village de Loker lui-même.

Le village changea plusieurs fois de mains entre le 25 et le 30 avril 1918, date à laquelle il fut repris par les Français. L'hospice, ou couvent, a été le théâtre de violents combats le 20 mai, mais n'a été repris que la première semaine de juillet. Loker Churchyard a été utilisé par les ambulances de campagne et les unités de combat de décembre 1914 à juin 1917, et il contient deux parcelles du Commonwealth. Une tombe a été apportée après l'Armistice du CIMETIÈRE FRANÇAIS DE LOCRE N°4. Le cimetière contient 215 sépultures du Commonwealth de la Première Guerre mondiale.
