The purpose of the Lobkovice waterworks
By maintaining a swollen level in the weir reservoir at an elevation of 161.59 m above sea level. water work provides:
- the necessary depths and suitable conditions for navigation within the meaning of the applicable navigation ordinance
- abstractions of surface water in accordance with the relevant permits
- use of water flows to produce electricity in a flow-through hydropower plant
- use of weir reservoir for water sports and recreation

The weir has three fields with a width of 25.0 m. They are covered by Stoney lifting gates and an mounted angle flap. The level difference is 2.7 m. Length of the reservoir - 7.14 km. The total volume of the reservoir is 1.807 million cubic meters.

The lock chamber is separated from the weir by a 50 m wide island, it has useful dimensions of 85 x 12 x 3 m. Filling and emptying is done with long bypasses around the sliding door. Locks and lock chamber doors are hydraulically operated from the control room or from the site.

The small hydroelectric power plant is located on the left bank of the Elbe and extends into the island formed between the Elbe riverbed and the former mill drive. The set consists of two vertical Kaplan turbines, each with an output of 1.18 MW at a capacity of 49 m3/s.

History:
The original solid weir, which created the level difference necessary for the operation of the mill and the carbide factory, also worsened the flood conditions in the villages on both banks of the Elbe. As part of the work to ensure year-round navigability, it was replaced about 300 m downstream by a new moving weir. Construction began with excavation work for the chamber in 1914. The work was made much more difficult by the cobblestone subsoil, which had to be excavated. The construction was negatively affected by the First World War, the work on the chamber was not completed until 1922. The new weir was then not built until 1928–31, after its completion the original solid building was finally demolished. The architectural design of the waterworks was designed by architect František Roith. Originally, the lock also served as a public crossing of the river. Unfortunately, this situation disappeared during the renovation of the chamber in 1995. In 1945, a small hydroelectric power plant was completed, the construction of which was financed by the Association for Chemical and Metallurgical Production in Prague, a builder of a nearby Neratovice chemical plant (Spolana). In the 1980s, the original weir closures were replaced by sluice gates.
