This brick one-room schoolhouse was constructed in 1878. Before that time schoolteacher Laura Lapier taught from her log cabin about a half mile south of here. The school's highest enrollment was 77 pupils in 1890. A brass plaque on the south side of the building gives some history and names of school board members at the time. The schoolhouse now serves as a wayside chapel and is available at all times to visitors.
