This bronze sculpture by Dutch artist, Bert Kiewiet, is located near the entrance to the Reading Room in the Herrick District Library in Holland, Michigan. It was donated to the Library by The Holland Woman’s Literary Club in 1999.

About the artist:
“The bronze sculptures by Bert Kiewiet (1918 – 2008) may not show every detail, yet they are nonetheless incredibly lifelike. Kiewiet loved to depict people in their daily life, preferably in the Dutch province of Drenthe. Many old and forgotten scenes can be discovered in his sculptures, such as an old farmer’s wife cleaning milk cans, a nurse on her bike or a group of farmers at a village market. With his bronze sculptures, Kiewiet shows us a glimpse of daily life of ordinary people through the ages.”
