Old Street Brewery began life in a very small way in 2016, with beer brewed on a 20 litre kit in the owners’ kitchen, in a flat off Old Street in central London. After perfecting recipes at home, the beer became available initially at the Queen’s Head pub on Acton Street, close to Kings Cross Station and by this stage a slightly larger brewery had been put together in the pub’s cellar.

This phase lasted until May 2017, then after a pause the brewery was re-established with its own tap room in a railway arch close to Bethnal Green underground station, in April 2018. Now with a 10hl capacity, using a former Pressure Drop Brewery kit, production increased and the taproom became a popular venue.

Successive Covid lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 have presented many challenges to the brewing and hospitality industries in England. With loosening of restrictions in April 2021, Old Street Brewery have emerged with an ambitious expansion of brewing and a new, larger taproom at Queen’s Yard in Hackney Wick in a former industrial premises. The new taproom has indoor and outdoor seating, a street art-themed decor, and full views of the brew-kit.

Old Street Brewery produce beers in a wide variety of styles and strengths, often on short or limited runs.

At the time of writing this makes Old Street the fourth brewery in production in the brewing hotbed of Queen’s Yard, the others being Howling Hops, Crate and Truman’s.
