Smokey Bear signs and statues can be found all over the country. This one is particularly special ... a life-sized Smokey Bear welcomes you to the Visitor's Welcome Center as you enter the great state of Maine.
This Smokey bear will let you know about the day's fire danger, and remind you to abide the other forest restrictions enforced by Maine's Forestry Service. All of which continues to reinforce Smokey's well know words "Only YOU can prevent forest fires."
This statue was placed and dedicated on Smokey's 68th Birthday. He is the longest-running public service ad campaign, first appearing on a poster on Aug. 9, 1944. Watch out for those candles Smokey!
