Located in the yard off the southwest corner of the Coal County Courthouse, constructed in 1969, is a large bell. We are assuming the bell was salvaged from the former two-story courthouse which was replaced. The photo of this courthouse is taken from the Oklahoma Historical Societies website for the county. Beneath the clock, it appears the bell may have hung in the open area of the tower.

The bell is mounted on a short metal pipe about one foot off the ground. The bell has three engravings on it to indicate its origin.
-- The E. Howard Clock Co. / New York, Boston, Chicago
-- The E.W. Vanduzen Co. Cincinnati
-- Buckeye Bell Foundry 1912
The Buckeye Bell Foundry was established in 1837 and operated until 1950. The Vanduzen name is prominent in this history as the company was sold and reorganized over the years.
