The Coalgate Post Office is located at 38 N. Main Street. It was built in 1940 with funding from the U.S. Treasury Department. This is a one-story tan brick building with a basement, built in the Art Moderne style. It has a single glass entry door which enters into a large lobby. The lobby contains a WPA-sponsored mural by Native American artist Acee Blue Eagle, which was placed there in 1942.
The building has a flat roof, with the main entrance slightly off-centered and consisting of a single metal/glass door with sidelights. The large window units are segmented. A five-step staircase leads to the entrance, and a handicapped ramp has been added. On the south elevation, an outside staircase leads to the basement area.
