Inscription on the plaque:

Sweetland Avenue
Heritage Conservation District

This block, unique to Sandy Hill, is a
well preserved example of a blend of
several styles of row housing and
single family dwellings. The homes
made this area a popular middle class
neighbourhood in Ottawa at the turn of
the century.

Simard House, at 31 Sweetland, built 1884,
is the oldest on the block. It is
a typical second empire style
workman's cottage.

Many of the other houses on the street,
built in the 1890's, are noteworthy for
their pitched roofs and decoratively
carved gables which are characteristic
of the Queen Anne style. The terraces
at 24-34 and 38-48 Sweetland avenue
are particularly outstanding assets to
the urban quality of this district.

Several buildings at the south end of
the street were built in the early 1900's
and exhibit Edwardian classical style.
