"DD or Duplex Drive tanks, nicknamed 'Donald Duck tanks', were a type of amphibious swimming tank developed by the British during World War II. The expression is mainly used for the Duplex Drive variant of the medium tank. M4 Sherman, which was used by the Western Allies during and after the Normandy landings in June 1944.

DD tanks worked by erecting a `` flotation screen '' around the tank, allowing it to float, and had two propellers powered by the tank motor to drive them through the water.

DD tanks were one of many specialized assault vehicles, collectively known as Hobart's Funnies, designed to support the planned invasion of Europe.

The Sherman Duplex Drive Bold tank was recovered two kilometers at sea in 1970, then restored before being displayed. It was one of four vehicles of B Squadron of 1st Hussars, which sank into the waves on the morning of June 6, 1944, due to rough seas. The Sherman Duplex Drive was one of the many special tanks of the 79th Armored Division, commanded by Major General Percy Hobart. A plaque pays particular tribute to Sergeant Leonard Roger Gariépy, who disembarked on June 6 aboard his Bucéphale tank on Juno Beach. "
