"The palace is a rectangular building around a porticoed courtyard. It is of classicist baroque style as driven by military engineers. The facade, composed of five cloths, is inspired by French models. It has two floors that corresponds to the two original functions of the building. The last floor was transformed in 1750 and has more decoration than the other two. In the facade one of the first shields of Galicia in a public building can be seen.
Inside the building there are two steps and a vaulted cistern. On the outside a baroque staircase leads from the building to the private garden, which is surrounded by remains of the old wall.
The building was built to house the Royal Court and the Captaincy General of Galicia. It was built by Royal Order of Ferdinand VI in 1748 on a previous wooden building damaged and financed by a tax on wine sold in Galicia. The initial project was by Juan Vergel, who died in 1750 and was replaced by Francisco Llovet, who made several changes to the project.
In 1808 the Supreme Board of the Kingdom of Galicia was formed in the building.
The division into Captaincy General disappeared in 1931, but the palace remained the seat of the Military Region until its demise in 2002."
