FR Cette tour de l'horloge nous fait penser aux beffrois du Nord et de l'Est de la France. Elle tire son origine en 1564 sur la passage voûté d'une ancienne porte, et elle est l'élément majeur de la Grand Place. C'est le spécialiste colmarien Jean Hugon qui a construit le mécanisme de l'horloge.
Au XVIIIe siècle, on préfère la remplacer par une horloge à pendule. Le campanile date de 1839.
Le siècle suivant voit la ruine de l'horloge; après sa démolition en 1890, elle est reconstruite au même endroit.
Le campanile est couronné de volutes qui soutiennent un globe terrestre et une girouette. Sur la façade, figure l'inscription "Tuta montibus et fluviis", donc "sure entre montagnes et fleuves". Enfin, deux statues dans des niches sont de allégories.
EN This clock tower reminds us of the belfries of the North and East of France. It originated in 1564 on the arched passage of an old door, and it is the major element of the Grand Place. Colmar specialist Jean Hugon built the clock mechanism.
In the 18th century, it was preferred to replace it with a pendulum clock. The bell tower dates from 1839.
The following century sees the ruin of the clock; after its demolition in 1890, it was rebuilt in the same place.
The campanile is crowned with volutes which support a terrestrial globe and a weather vane. On the facade, appears the inscription "Tuta montibus et fluviis", therefore "sure between mountains and rivers". Finally, two statues in niches are allegories.
