"From its earliest years, the Teatro Colón has been irretrievably associated in the memory of A Coruña with the great milestones of celluloid, such as "What the wind took" and other great Hollywood premieres that marked an era. Since it opened in 1948, the Theater has fulfilled its objective of offering optimal conditions of capacity and comfort to host a variety of musical and theatrical stage performances as well as film screenings. That was the intention of the show businessman Emilio Rey Romero, promoter and architect of its construction.

The architect Jacobo Rodríguez-Losada Trulock designed this building in 1945, unique for its size and location in the city and characterized by its classicist image. The aesthetic commitment was maintained when more than 50 years later, in 2002, remodeling works began, which focused on obtaining a more rational use of space. Thus, the scheme of the Italian-style Theater was maintained, with a clear delimitation between the places for the audience and the stage. The lack of service rooms was solved by creating a basement with numerous rooms: rehearsal and rest rooms, warehouses, workshops, dressing rooms, toilets and facilities rooms. The intervention relied heavily on the pre-existing structure, while renewing all elements.

Since then, Columbus has shone a new face, although decoration and architecture follow his original line. Among the new features are the installation of air conditioning in the room, independent of the rest of the building, the replacement of floors and finishes and the reform of the seating area, which has been provided with greater spaciousness, comfort and quality. Lighting and audio, essential in a building of this nature, were renewed with the installation of a large central luminaire and the amplification of sound systems."
