The plaque says, According to an 1861 account, Cucamonga derived its name from a peak in the adjacent San Gabriel mountains called Quical Mungo." Lake a generous parent watching over her young, Quical's waters have made life possible in the valley before. Before this water was harnessed, the desert creatures, like antelopes and bears, had miles of sage and bunchgrass all to themselves. For centuries, the parched land came alive with color only once a year - with the spring wildflowers."
