The first all steel bridge spans the Murray River between New South Wales and Murrabit in Victoria was opened on July 1st 1926.The bridge originally carried the Kerang railway line and road traffic over the Murray River and into New South Wales. Since 1943 when the rail line closed the bridge has been a traffic bridge only. The bridge can still be raised to allow for river traffic to pass
