Kuuntele tarkkaan kuuletko kaiuttimista kohinaa. Teos kuuluu Valtion taidekokoelmaan.

[EN] Big Bang Echo is a sculpture designed by the Finnish Markus Copper, located on the campus of the University of Turku, in front of the physics department building. It was commissioned by the State Art Commission in 1998 and unveiled in 2000.

In 1997, the State Art Commission decided to organize an invitational competition for six artists for a sculpture to be placed in front of the Department of Physics building. When the competition wins in the Big Bang Echo, the dish attached to the sculpture receives electromagnetic radiation, which is theoretically derived from the initial explosion, and converts it into sound. Radiation from the Big Bang explosion was first studied by John C. Mather and George Smoot of the United States, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006 for their research.

The work is made of spectrolite and its speakers are made of stainless steel. Listen carefully to whether you hear noise from the speakers. The work belongs to the State Art Collection.
