The Bonham Drive-In was opened by Cole Theatres on July 11, 1950 with John Wayne in “Three Godfathers”. It had a capacity for 304 cars, and there were 54 seats for walk-in patrons. It was still open in 1977.
All that is left is the old marquee sign. The new land owners have demolished the only remaining building (old ticket booth) and the North Texas Auctions building was added along with the a chain length barbed wire fence.
While the sign is deteriorating, it is still a prominent and only remaining reminder of a theater that was. The Bonham Drive-In Theatre marquee is located just west of Bonham, Texas off HWY 56 just before you get into town. You can’t miss it.
Current condition: Very little remains (signs, speaker posts, car ramps, screen structure, etc.)
