The grave of Samuel B. and his wife Jane A. Purple is marked by a fluted broken column monument. Both Samuel and especially Jane died in their prime of life. Samuel (1813–1857) was 44 years old and Jane (1831–1857) was 25 years old.

Samuel B. Purple was born in Northfield, MA. He was a silversmith for the Foster & Purple Co. (1844-1845) and later the sole proprietor of S.B. Purple Co. (1845-1857) both of Columbus, GA. He married Jane Abigail Thomas in 1850. The couple moved back to Northfield, MA in 1856 where Samuel worked as a silversmith.

The column rests on a base which has the inscription.
