The building was constructed in 1874, but was turned into an opera house by John Crump in 1889. It was converted to a movie theater in 1914 and renamed the Crump Theater. The theater exterior was changed to the current Art Moderne in 1941 and it closed in 1987 when it came close to being demolished. It was restored in 2001 and continues to serve the community today.
