"The gardens are located in the Old City. In this place was the old bastion known as the Old Fortress, protected with a thick wall and a very solid work in which the gunpowder necessary for the defense of the city was kept. Under the shade of ancient elm trees is the grave of a romantic hero, General John Moore, who died in 1809 defending the city against the French.
In the year 1834, the then Governor of the square, Don Francisco de Mazarredo transformed it by building the current garden that is preserved as an evocative romantic garden.
From the viewpoint, looking out over the gallery, you can see a magnificent panoramic view of the port and coastal façade of the city."
