CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. Fast-moving deputies saved a man who was about to jump off the Bridge of the Gods Tuesday morning.
Dramatic video from a deputies dash-cam showed the pair running up to the suicidal man, restraining him and saving him from jumping to his death.
The Skamania County Sheriff s Office commended Sgt. Jay Johnston, plus Deputy Rick Princehouse, who works for Hood River County, for doing an outstanding job of responding so fast to the call.
He [the rescued man] seems like a very nice gentleman, Princehouse told KGW, He has some issues he's been dealing with. After we took him into custody, he was polite and apologetic and embarrassed by his actions.
Princehouse said he stayed with the man through a mental evaluation during which he thanked the deputies for saving him.
Authorities said the man is now getting the resources he needs to get through the circumstances that led him to try to commit suicide." (
